What you need to know about Clubhouse
Last updated: 26/10/2021
Clubhouse is a fairly new social media platform with a high exclusivity image. Since Elon Musk used the application and shared it openly, the platform has been rising like crazy in popularity. But what exactly can you do with this app? Which social media channel can you compare Clubhouse to? And the main question: is this app worth the download?
What is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is an application where you can hold and listen to live conversations between individuals. You can compare it to a podcast. The only difference is that you can listen to a podcast at any time, while on Clubhouse’s conversations happen live and aren’t recorded for playback. As a result, many new listeners suffer from the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) phenomenon. If you aren’t attending a certain room, you miss what is happening.
Anyone can create a group conversation about a certain topic and invite partners to join. You can schedule conversations, announce them, and listen in on conversations between others.
As a marketer or business owner, this provides a great opportunity to brand yourself or the brand you work for as a go-to resource.
But how does it work?
The application used to be only available through the App Store. Meanwhile, Clubhouse is available on both Android and iOS and anyone can use the app.
In its early stage, you were able to download the application, but you did not have immediate access to Clubhouse. The developers chose that you could only join the platform if you had received an invitation from someone else. However, this changed. Nowadays, it is open to everyone, which means you no longer need an invite to join.
Optimise your bio
Through your Clubhouse bio you can tell what you want to be known for. What you include will determine how people find you via searches and the type of followers you will attract.
I recommend you create an extended informational bio and include emojis to make it more attractive. Make sure to include basic information like where you work, your title, your expertise, and social media profiles. If you have launched a club on Clubhouse, I suggest adding this in your bio.
How to grow your number of followers
To attract new followers, it is crucial to be active on the app and show up on stage. It might be attempting to jump into large rooms, but the chance of being noticed is very small. It is rather recommended to participate in rooms where the number is small.
When choosing a room, it is extremely important to only enter those that are relevant to your industry and get to know people who often participate. By being more active and showing up consistently to those rooms, the hosts will likely pull you up onto the stage. People will discover your expertise and they will be more inclined to follow you. You will discover that by going on stage, you will gain more followers than by listening.
