How to Keep on Learning in this Accelerating World
On the 7th of December, I got the chance from 4P square to visit the Marketing congress of BAM, the Belgian Association of Marketing, in Brussels.
4P square is one of the founding architects of BAM and is proud and happy to be a part of the greatest marketing platform in Belgium.
If you would like to know what has been said or would like to have a recap, keep reading for a summary of the presentation by Kristof De Wulf, with the topic ‘The era of average is over’.
The era of average is over
Kristof De Wulf starts with a modern-day problem. We follow facts that support the old world but not the new world, while the new world is almost the opposite of the old world.
We live in a fast-changing, continually innovating and uncertain world.
What do we have to do, so we don’t get left behind? Kristof De Wulf shares his vision about EDGE:
Envision
What do you expect in the next five to 10 years? Make sure you focus on the right things, envision what will be relevant for now and the following years.
Digest
If you put 10,000 hours of practice into something, you can become an expert. Isn’t that what they say?
Nowadays employees don’t have time to practice something for 10,000 hours, which is pretty obvious.
In this fast-changing world, new solutions must be found. You have to digest all changes that you come across.
Glue
We bring new things together, which create new opportunities. The iPhone for example is a combination of three devices.
Or the new all-inclusive prices of Volvo, where you pay a $600 monthly premium for insurance, service and maintenance for 24 months, after which you can exchange the car for a new model.
We have to glue things together, adapted to the new world, to create new opportunities.
Earn
Move from ‘marketing to customers’ to ‘mattering to people’. We’re just annoying people with our hypertargeted advertisements because we make them think that we know everything about them.
And guess what, people don’t like that. That’s why GDPR will have a huge impact in May of 2018.
So, people, we have to shift up a gear in this accelerating world. Fail fast, learn fast.
